CONFEDERAZIONE DELLE ASSOCIAZIONI GRECHE PER IL BENESSERE ANIMALE
COMUNICATO STAMPA
Da molti anni la nostra confederazione combatte il traffico illegale organizzato di animali randagi dalla Grecia verso paesi dell’Ovest e degli Stati Uniti d’America, che avviene per mezzo delle attività di organizzazioni della “protezione animale”, gestite soprattutto da stranieri e da greci.
Negli ultimi tre anni, nonostante le nostre ripetute azioni ed appelli al Ministero dell’Agricoltura e ad altri Ministeri competenti, onde completare la Legge 3170/2003 riguardante la “protezione animale” ed anche la Direttiva Europea No. 998/2003 relativa al “trasporto di animali da compagnia non per scopi commerciali”, e nonostante il blocco di massicci trasporti di animali al porto del Pireo ed all’aeroporto di Atene, da parte di membri della Confederazione, a tutt’oggi non c’è stata alcuna reazione e nemmeno una risposta alle nostre domande.
Questo atteggiamento di indifferenza da parte dello Stato, ad una situazione talmente importante che riguarda la morale e la dignità sia nazionale sia di ogni singolo individuo, ci ha costretti a rivolgerci alla Commissione Europea, i cui membri coinvolti sono greci ed anche delle altre nazioni.
In qualità di cittadini Europei chiediamo aiuto alla Commissione Europea, poiché crediamo che le leggi nazionali ed europee non devono solo essere sottoscritte, ma bensì rispettate in toto, anche se si tratta di protezione di animali indifesi e non possiamo più tollerare metodi e pretese diverse di fatti che sono conosciuti a livello mondiale e che screditano il nostro paese.

CONFEDERATION OF THE GREEK ANIMAL WELFARE SOCIETIES
PRESS RELEASE
Since many years, our Confederation strives against the organized illegal trading of stray animals from Greece to countries of Western Europe and America, operated through the activity of “animal welfare” Organizations which are headed, mainly by foreigners as well as by Greeks.
Despite our repeated actions and appeals, during the last three years, to the Ministry of Agriculture and to the other competent Ministries, for the completion of Law 3170/2003 concerning “the Animal Protection” as well as the legislating of the European Regulation No.998/2003 concerning “the non-commercial transportation of companion animals”, and despite the seizure of massive animal transports in the port of Piraeus and the Athens Airport realized by members of our Confederation, until now there has been no reaction, not even a response to our questions.
This indifferent attitude of the State to such a significant situation which affects our national as well as our individual morality and dignity, forced us to appeal to the European Commission whose member is Greece as well as the other countries involved.
As European citizens, we ask for the assistance of the European Commission because we believe that the National and European Legislation should not be signed only, but also should be observed by all, even when it concerns the protection of defendless animals, and, because we cannot tolerate anymore the covering, with different pretences and methods, of facts which are known worldwide and which disgrace our country.
We attach a copy of the letter we sent to the European Commission. This letter was accompanied by a supporting documentation file.
